19+ Ford Escape Neutral Safety Switch
19+ Ford Escape Neutral Safety Switch. Problem starting 2002 ford escape. The neutral safety switch is a component on automatic transmissions that prevent the vehicle from starting if the gear lever is set to anything other than park or neutral.
It is a 11 pin connector. This is not a safety recall so apparently ford doesn't have to mail anything to owners. I replaced the ignition switch with the same problem last year.
Problem starting 2002 ford escape.
My issue is, the car starts just fine in park and in neutral, but when i put it in reverse, the backup lights do not work. I have been told via telephone by a friend guessing that the neutral safety switch is going out. I replaced the ignition switch with the same problem last year. The purpose of the neutral safety switch is to prevent the car from starting while in gear, which would cause it to launch forward unexpectedly.
